Climate Change Initiatives

The Active Transportation Plan brings together initiatives and promotions of street and trail networks through the town that are accessible by walking, cycling, transit and other human modes of transportation.

Bicycle Loan Program

The Quispamsis Climate Change Committee partnered with the Kennebecasis Public Library and two local bike shops – Millennium Cycle & Sport and Bikes and Beans – to purchase and donate four new bicycles to the library.

The donation is one of the Committee’s climate change and energy initiatives to promote active transportation in the community.

The bicycles are available to the public during warm weather months for seven-day loans through the library’s Object Lending Program.

Cleaner Greener Quispamsis

Help keep our community beautiful!

Cleaner Greener Quispamsis, the annual town cleanup, starts during the first week of May and runs for nearly three weeks.

We ask the community to clean up waste and debris around their properties and neighbourhoods that may have piled up over the winter. The waste can then be deposited in one of the dumpsters placed at municipal facilities.

Town of Quispamsis councillors and staff join in, too! We select one day during the campaign to tidy various public places around the community.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Stations

Electric vehicles are helping reduce our climate footprint in Quispamsis.

We have a two-vehicle EV charging station in the Quispamsis Town Hall parking lot which charges the ever-increasing number of electric vehicles in our Town fleet!

The station is part of the NB Power eCharge Network and is one of two stations in town. Registration is required for the publicly accessible station.

LED Lights

In keeping with our energy efficiency and sustainability goals, nearly all lighting inside and outside the qplex has been converted to LED.

LED lights greatly reduce power consumption by about 50% and heat generated by lighting while increasing reliability.

The Town has also partnered with NB Power who replaced 759 Street Lights throughout the Town with LED bulbs.

Net Zero Emissions Pilot Project

The Town of Quispamsis is participating in the New Brunswick Smart Energy Communities Accelerator Pilot Program.

The program works with several New Brunswick Communities to help them understand and recognize the economic benefits of implementing responsible community energy plans.
