Public advised against swimming at Meenan’s Cove Beach due to blue-green algae

The Town of Quispamsis is advising against swimming at Meenan’s Cove Beach as blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) blooms continue to form intermittently in the water.

Staff notified the New Brunswick Department of Environment on Monday, August 21, of the presence of a blue-green algae bloom. The photos are from the morning of Tuesday, August 22.

We recommend people and pets avoid contact with the water when a bloom is visible. Please note that blooms can form and dissipate quickly.

Signs remain posted at the beach.

Please see the graphic from the Province of New Brunswick for more information on cyanobacteria.
