Mayor encourages residents to “Walk Circles Around Quispamsis” for ParticipACTION

Residents are invited to take part in this year’s Community Challenge for ParticipACTION and help the town win up to $100,000.

ParticipACTION runs June 1-30 across Canada, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community. This year’s local Community Challenge theme is “Walk Circles Around Quispamsis.”

It is approximately 40 kms to walk, run or ride in a complete circle around the town limits.

“I want to see how many times we, as a community, can complete that circle, regardless of where we walk, run or wheel around,” said Mayor Libby O’Hara.

Mayor O’Hara has pledged to walk three complete “circles,” or 120 km, during the month of June. She is encouraging other residents to join in and track their distances walked on streets, trails or anywhere else. Later in June, you can share your results so they can be tallied up.

To participate, register online at participaction.com.

At the conclusion of the challenge, Canada’s Most Active Community will receive $100,000 to support local physical activity and sports initiatives.

“We are an active community,” O’Hara said. “This is a fun way to work toward a common goal and improve our physical and mental health at the same time.”

In addition to the national prize winner, one community in each of the remaining provinces and territories will receive $7,500 to $15,000.
