Deputy Mayor Mary Schryer

Mary Schryer is serving her first term as Deputy Mayor.

Mary has worked for the residents of Quispamsis to establish new housing options for seniors and persons needing specialized housing and long term care assistance. These partnerships and collaboration have  brought King Way Care Center, Parkland in the Valley and affordable housing to our community.

Turning her attention to promote and create avenues for healthy lifestyles advanced the building of the Arts and Cultural Park, the qplex, KV Fields and much needed enhancements to the KVHS Theatre.

Her time on the Regional Police Commission propelled her to garner support and funding for the introduction of the  KV Domestic Violence Outreach.

Mary is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly for Quispamsis, where she served as Minister of Health, Minister of Social Development, Minister for the Status of Women, and Minister for Seniors and Housing.

While in the provincial government, Mary was able to expand her partnerships into the Greater Saint John region to gain support and funding for Bobby’s Hospice, Sophia House, New Brunswick Medical School and Dalhousie Medical Research and affordable housing.

Taking on a leadership role in the fight against poverty in our province Mary worked with  residents, business, non-profit organizations and all political parties to create a Poverty Reduction Strategy for New Brunswick.

Mary was elected to the Horizon Health Board in 2012 and 2016. She completed her second term in June 2021.

Most recently Mary was self employed in the local real estate industry. She was previously a self-employed financial adviser, specializing in financial planning, employee health benefits and workplace financial seminars.

Mary has continued to serve her community in a number of capacities. She has coordinated International Women’s Day in Quispamsis and Rothesay for the last 12 years, and is a founding and active member of Women for 50%,.
