Quispamsis is a picturesque community in southwestern New Brunswick, 22 kilometres northeast of the City of Saint John. It is situated in the Kennebecasis Valley, along the breathtaking Kennebecasis and Hammond River waterways. The short distance from the Fundy fog belt and the cool breezes of the Atlantic Ocean allow for warmer temperatures in spring and summer.
We are a vibrant, progressive community with attractive residential opportunities for families of all shapes and sizes. We have an abundance of recreational opportunities, a library, English and French schools, professional services, a retail district, an industrial park, an airport and places of worship all within our region.
Quispamsis is the sixth-largest municipality in New Brunswick.
Land Acknowledgement
We would like to respectfully acknowledge that Quispamsis exists on the traditional Mi’kmaq (mic maq) and Maliseet First Nations land. The first inhabitants of the area now known as Quispamsis were members of the Maliseet tribe known as the Etchemin.
The lands of the Mi’kmaq and Maliseet people are recognized in a series of Peace and Friendship treaties to establish an ongoing relationship of peace, friendship and mutual respect between equal nations.
The name ‘Quispamsis’ was derived from the Maliseet word ‘Quispem Sis, meaning , ‘little lake’ in reference to today’s Ritchie Lake. One of the Town’s main borders, the Kennebecasis River, derived its name from the Mi’kmaq word - “Kenepekachichk, meaning, “little long bay place.”
We would like to take this moment to pay respect to the elders, past and present and the descendants of this land.
