The original inhabitants were the proud Maliseet First Nation , part of the great Algonquin Federation. The name, "Quispamsis" was translated from the Maliseet language and means, "little lake in the woods", the lake being present-day Ritchie Lake. Acadian, British pre-Loyalists and Loyalists settled in the area around 1783, with many receiving land grants along the Kennebecasis and Hammond Rivers. In 1998 Quispamsis amalgamated with the former Village of Gondola Point and a portion of the area formerly known as Wells. |
Quispamsis is a progressive, vibrant community with quality living for young, in-between and all types of family units alike. It offers many recreation programs and recreational areas, a variety of schools and religious facilities, and retail and professional services. Spectacular and varied residential housing options include a wide range of waterfront or water-view properties. The Quispamsis Town Hall, constructed in 2002, will soon see a very attractive Arts and Culture Park developed on the lands adjacent to the Town Hall building. |
The downtown area of Quispamsis has been zoned primarily for commercial use. Water and sewer servicing in most commercial areas, and the growing demands of an increasing population, offers great potential for business growth. The expansion of professional facilities and a large track of land situated along the new connector road, Millenium Drive, offers many vacant acres of serviced Business-Park zoned land. The area is home to a highly educated, rapidly growing, multilingual workforce with above average income characteristics. |
