Premier Brian Gallant recently sent correspondence in which he thanked the Town for its letter, and acknowledged many New Brunswickers share concerns about the fate of refugees who are facing terrible challenges. The Province has made a donation to the UN High Commission to assist the refugees. New Brunswick, along with all Canadian provinces, he wrote, is waiting to learn if some of the current Syrian and Iraqi refugees will be selected to settle here. Once that happens, the Province will look forward to working closely with its municipal partners in the settlement and integration of these newcomers. He encouraged people to learn more about the Government of Canada’s private refugee sponsorship program.
